 The Vietnamese

Social life is rich here, there are plenty of occasions to meet people. After a few months, we may have the feeling that Vietnam is a "small" world.

In the streets, people mix without any problems, they talk, tease each other... This section invites you to go out in the streets of Vietnam.

Lieu Nguyen - Artist

“I often ask my paintings whether they dreamed me into existence or if it is the other way around.  We live together and yet we are alone, both following our own path and bearing our own destiny.  They step into infinity without any reason and do not return.  Thinking while they go.  Listening to their footsteps as they echo in the silence.  An immense silence in an endless abyss.  Where are they going?

They feel as if they are falling into a trap.  At that moment they are like a fish caught in a net, fearful of the stab from a sharp spear.  They struggle for life but cannot change their destiny except through the intervention of a miracle.  Have they not always been waiting for such a miracle?

Nhung

Nhung is a young student freshly arrived from Vung Tau to give herself a chance in Ho Chi Minh City. Besides her studies, she works or tries to, she knows it's not going to be easy to be hired in sales since she doesn't match with the typical profile. Her problem is that she looks like a child, and it's difficult to consider her as an adult. Yet, she seduced me with her intelligence and her liveliness. Moreover, I found her funny when she imitates the ones  who were chosen over her. In the meantime, as she struggles to find a job in sales, she decided to use her brain and to teach Vietnamese.

Thach Ha

Thach Ha is the sister everybody dreams to have. She will be your most loyal friend and confidant. She listens to you without judging you and gives you precious advice when you ask for it. When I think about her, the words simplicity, warmth, and smile come to my mind.

But I also forgot to tell you that Thach Ha is a very talented singer. She performs songs from Alanis Morissette or Janis Joplin with her own style and each time, with a lot of emotion. That girl is just a pearl.

The twins Dzung and Trung

Many speculations exist about twin personalities. Dzung and Trung fascinate me with their creativity. "Dz" is a clothing and accessories designer but also a visual artist, Trung is an architect. Both correspond to a new generation of Vietnamese, modern and open to the world. In their way they represent the perfect combination between tradition and modernism, for their creations, though originals, are inspired by the viet culture. They gather other young people, working in various artistic worlds. Their headquarters, the Yoko Bar is a kind of experimentation center for creative people.

More to come...
