Because many people
live in Vietnam in their hearts and their minds, we will dedicate
this part to those who are looking for their roots.
You will meet here some overseas Vietnamese who have decided to come back
to Vietnam, sometimes to make a living.

Synopsis
"While their Chinese, Japanese, Cham neighbors have
the reputation to be great fishermen and adventurers, Vietnamese
live, as possible as they can, with their back toward the sea.
Even to the extreme limit of poverty, they stick to their fields
even against the threat of the Ocean itself.... keeping to the
earth all their trust and their preference".
These considerations, written in the middle of the
1960's, aimed to focus on a distinctive feature of the Vietnamese
people, that is, its attachment to the motherland and its reluctance for long and far expatriations.
Centuries of history, during which neither bloody
wars, periods of foreign occupation, nor periods of starvations,
are proofs of the stability of the population and of the tight
bonds that unify it to its own land. Only extraordinary events would have untied those links...
A massive exodus, unthinkable just a few years
before will bring hundreds of thousands people far from their
motherland. The Vietnamese Diaspora, that was till that moment
limited to only 170 000 people, grew to reach within two decades
more than two millions people in the whole world...
