An Phu is THE expat area in Saigon. Located just about 15 min from downtown, it is a good place to live if you are looking for quietness and houses with garden (and swimming pool).
Families with kids will find there:
Activities: Public pools, tennis courts, bike and roller playgrounds
Schools (British International School " BIS " and International School of Ho Chi Minh City " ISHCM" )
Safer streets for those riding bicycles and mopeds.
An Phu is splited into 2 main areas: Thao Dien and Tran Nao.
Thao Dien is the most popular area as both british and international schools are there. There is also a "big" supermarket.
This area has 7 main compounds: BP compound, FIDICO compound, Phu Nhuan compound, Bao Tinh compound, SG Riverside compound, Thao Dien I & II
Beware: Some parts of Thao Dien are floody almost everyday. The water can reach 40-50 cm high in the street. If most houses are protected/elevated, the access can be difficult by bike and by car. This phenomenum comes with the tides. So you will notice it in the morning and by the end of the afternoon.
