I was wondering if you could give me some advice on life in vietnam. My family and I will be moving to Hanoi end of June 2008. I sure would like to know more about the city from the people already living in Hanoi than just reading the travel guide. I will be enrolling my kids to Lycee Francais Alexandre Yersin. Where is the best place to find accomodations, preferable quiet in a residential area or compound with swimming pool? Are there any restriction in regards to womens way of dressing. I currently living in Dubai where are are certain ways of dressing, such way as nothing too revealing or short. What is it like living in veitnam for a foreigner? I could sure use some advices.

Hi Marie, welcome to Vietnam. Hanoi is very nice (to me) and easy, it’s very much different from Dubai, dressing ingeneral is not an issue in Vietnam. There are 4 seasons and it’s quite cold in Winter. Expat living area is in Tay Ho where most of the villas and a new area called Ciputra with all the modern villas, apartments.
